Jim Croce Song and Retirement Planning
Jim Croce was an American singer/songwriter of the 1960’s and 1970’s. He wrote and sang a number of popular songs including “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” and “I’ll Have to Say I Love You in a Song.” One of his other big hits is the point of this blog post, “Time In a Bottle.” The theme of “Time In a Bottle” is that if the singer could save time in a bottle there are many things he would do including spending time with the love of his life. But the sad part is, of course, that we can’t save time in a bottle. Instead, we need to do the things we want to do now because, as the old saying goes, time waits for no one.
Rather than wait for retirement to work on your bucket list of things you want to do, may I suggest that you start doing some of them now? Or if you don’t have a bucket list yet, get started on creating one now. My wonderful wife Nancy gave me a notebook on my last birthday to start writing down my bucket list. You can do the same.
How about this as an action item: start a bucket list of the experiences you’ve always wanted to have by the end of the year and then make a New Year’s resolution to do at least one of those in 2018? You might surprise yourself with how much fun it will be.
